After a flawless walkover, Andreas "MMC|StarSky" Hefter and our clan's old friend n!NaturePhoenix just entered the final of the 2vs2 Fan Patch Cup hosted by AgeSanctuary.com. With $ 2,000 in prices, it is the biggest tournament played with the current Fan Patch for Age of Empires III: The Asian Dynasties so far.

During group stage, StarSky and NaturePhoenix had to face in particular WCG winner Ryan "MMC|_H2O" Mancl and his partner as well as the famous team Braidon and Biob0b, before they finally entered the semi-final, where they took out n!faculty players n!mRcheese and n!Ourk.

Alas, Matt "NightScr3aM" Savaryn and Nicol "NiCo__" Jamie, who also participated for MMC, could not keep up with this performance and lost their quarter finals.

All group stage brackets can be found here, the final matches here.

Two weeks ago, one of Germany's biggest LAN events took place - the get BoinKed 8.

In addition to such well-known players as DyNaMic, Zockergod and C&C WCG gold medalist Dackel, Marcel "InsOp" Michelfelder participated for MMC and could win some of the most important tournaments. Not only did he finish first (2on2) and second (1on1) in his key game C&C Red Alert 3, he also won the tournaments for the even more distiguished Blizzard titles Warcraft III and Starcraft.

Along with a second place in C&C 3 Kane's Wrath (2on2) and several Top5 ranks in smaller games, InsOp played an excellent tournament and proved once more MMC's players' competitve skills in LAN games as well.

Tournament results can be found here.

This past week, one of the biggest events for gamers in America took place, the E3 expo. At E3, the top studios from around the country and around the world gather to share their upcoming projects with their fans. Of course, Activision Blizzard was present at EA and the hot topic was the upcoming release of the long awaited StarCraft 2. In their pre-E3 teleconference, Blizzard president Matt Morhaime confirmed that StarCraft 2 was being targeted for release in 2009, with the beta being planned for the summer. In usual Blizzard language, "We're targeting an end of year release--this year--for StarCraft 2," said Morhaime. "But as always, we won't release it until it meets our standards and the expectations of our players." This is encouraging news for all RTS fans everywhere and StarCraft 2: Wing's of Liberty nears completion.

LS3 Period 1 Ends, Khufu Qualifies

Today at 1 PM PST, the first qualification period for Ladder Season 3 presented by EALA came to an end. The top eight players on each of the Red Alert 3 and Kane's Wrath ladders advanced to the group stage of the tournament which begins in late July. Of all the competing players for MMC.eSports, David 'khufu' Lathrop was the only player that managed to finish in the top 8. Khufu was almost able to qualify for both games but fell short in Kane's Wrath in the final hours. The unofficial first eight qualifiers are:

  • s.boy - Replaced by BaPoR
  • Mutou
  • DyNaMic
  • MMC.khufu
  • nukestrike_
  • Matiz
  • iCa
  • LoT_Zlex - Replaced by E.LeOwNzAll

There is, however, some controversy surrounding several of the players listed for point pushing and frequent disconnecting. We hope these issues are sorted out in the near future and congratulate khufu on his great first session. Period 2 has now begun and the ladders have reset so begin playing!

UPDATE: EA has finalized the qualifiers in each game and khufu has moved into the top 8 for Kane's Wrath! Congratulations again.

Some time ago, members of the often maligned Chinese Red Alert 3 community came forward with a challenge to the community site GameReplays.org. The players, led by s.boy wanted to play a tournament similar to the previously held UF vs. [GR] tournament for which each community fielded a team of its best to face off. The Chinese team has already been assembled and this weekend the world team started its qualification tournament. Competing to play for the world team are MMC.eSports players Noel 'n0el' Saxton and David 'khufu' Lathrop. The first part of the tournament started today and saw n0el in group play with some other top world players.
