I think the gravity economic condition is a reason for this decision.

Holy shit, this means the best players in both games are now free lancing it . I do find this decision odd with StarCraft 2 on the way though.

Moon is already going to WeMade FOX and Grubby will get picked up soon by a big name organization, all the other players are really insignificant even the SC players, WhiteRa and Strelok are only top20 foreigners and who gives a shit about foreign SC?

Yeah but their SC team wasn't what was costing them the money as far as I know. They did however make huge contracts in WC3, moon was getting 100k annually apparently. But both games are dieing so the decision is understandable in that sense. It is still shocking since when someone thinks MYM they think WC3, moon, and grubby.

MYM sucks anyways, they created their own demise by overpaying players in the first place, they created the giant salary demand from war3 and cs players

Indeed they did, it is pretty amusing in a way. They drove out many teams because they can't compete with the high salaries, and it seems this might have come back to bite them.

Its kinda funny how all these high money projects start failing once the money flow decreases.

some interesting comments:

in wc3 they created their own stars and progaming level by investing more and more of their own money into the flow, i dont call that progaming, it's just raising salaries of your people to make it look like it's some fancy sport with big shots.

hence wc3 progaming was never comparable to the korean sc progaming, short-term solutions fail, whereas in korea it is much more complex and didnt spin around players' salaries. actually salaries didnt produce progaming there, higher salaries came as progaming developed - but that takes time, doesnt it.

mym tried to do the same thing with sc, buying "superstars" for pure cash and calling it "bringing sc to a more professional level, grow up!". there is only one problem - at that point sc already had a real progaming scene and the way nonkorean functions never was suitable for such ideas - so basically they couldnt conquer the world with such business

(making an actual progaming team on the level of progaming in korea would be a 2big chunk to chew for mym), nor could they even conquer the non-korean world

which lead to a need to change the tactics and allow the sc managers to finally do their job, bringing "less known players" to the team, which then lead to mym becoming the best non-korean team. which is something mym could've never achieved with pure money, to accomplish something in the sc scene you need to understand it, you cant just buy a few key players and make them win everything, you cant just drag some chick to write blogs and gain traffic as sc community has different standards, etc.

all the leagues and the whole progaming wc3 scene is very unstable, i mean did the korean sc scene even flinch? no, it couldnt care less what happens in the world, it will live as long as it wants to. i guess now we can expect mym returning when sc2 produces its 1st stars, buying them all and trying the same philosophy - as korea supports sc (leaving sc2 to the outsiders) it will be the new "wc3" as mym will probably once again be able to set its own illusion of progaming by giving the players salaries other teams couldnt afford - i mean who learns from his mistakes

We can say that team leagues for wc3 are dead. Let us look forward to more one on one leagues this is what wc3 really is.

sc has many legends : boxer, nada, yellow, oov, savior, july, bisu, reach
wc3 has many legends : moon, grubby, tod, sky, fov, lyn
cs has many legends : heaton, potti, spawn, element, xeqtr, ksharp, frod
quake has many legends : cooller, tox, fatal1ty, jibo, stermy

So the most stable wc3 team is dead now, clan tag that became a part of the nick MyM|Moon - is gone. If only Moon stayed in MYM - it could survive Yes, sc in europe is not so popular, also korean clans are dominating and too strong. But in wc3 you were the best.

I know, that Grubby and Moon won't dissapear, they will find their new home, also I understand why MYM couldn't afford wc3 team anymore, heard that Moon's salary was 16 000 euros, and I think Grubby's was close enough - without really rich sponsor - it is very hard to pay such salaries. Abramovich could save them

The only hope for money in RTS now seems to be the potential enlarging of the pro-scene upon release of SC2 and the inclusion of foreigners into it based on stellar performance. But this probably won't even happen.
