![]() Blizzard announced the final closed beta is going to be for around 2 weeks starting in early July. During the first phase of the closed beta Blizzard received a lot of feedback. Asked for the areas of the game that did people want changed the most the blizzard guys answered: We really received a lot of feedback. Balance, features, ladder, chatting, etc... The interesting thing about this beta was we held it in three different areas simultaneously. Because of this, the balance feedback differed from region to region.
Korean gamers wanted zerg to be nerfed, while NA/Europe users kept asking for zerg buffs. This was because Korean gamers are very tactically astute, and those tactics spread to Europe and NA eventually. So the feedback from Korean gamers was very important. |

![]() Rumors, ... In case you haven't read it already: rumor has it that StarCraft II will be released the 11th of June. The theory behind that particular date is based on an official artwork published by Blizzard, which can be seen for example on the front page of the April edition of the German magazine Gamestar and contains the numbers 02:16:06:11. As the beta has been released the 16th of February, the 11th of June seems to be a hot tip - considering that Blizzard developers seem to love giving hints about the things they are working on (remember how they announced Diablo 3 ?). Here is the part of the artwork which contains the alleged release date: ![]() ... Restrictions ... Meanwhile, Blizzard themselves have to face much more serious problems: Being regularly at odds with the Korean e-Sports Players Association (KeSPA), they now seem to be in some conflict with Korea's Games Rating Board as well which qualified StarCraft II as Adult Only. Computer games being an important part of Korean (e-Sports) culture, this is probably be a massive setback for Blizzard, even if it might be of little importance for the European and American market. ... and some Racing Fantastic competitive RTS gaming is not the only thing the Beta version contains: There are also some amazing things which can be done with the map editor which seems to be at least as powerful as the editor for WarCraft III has been. We are just linking a rather funny video of a game which looks like Mario Kart but you can be pretty sure that there will be much more serious custom maps once the game is released. Who knows? Maybe, the next DotA-like success story is based on a SC 2 custom map - given that the idea of DotA is taken from a StarCraft map as well... |

![]() An overabundance of tournaments eSport-wise, StarCraft II is going to be the ultimate RTS Game... its predecessor is definitely the world's most important RTS game when it comes to e-Sports (to tell the truth, there is hardly any game of any genre which can keep up with StarCraft), Blizzard has an incredible number of fans, having hardly produced any game which has not become a worldwide success, and world class players from all other (RTS) games seem to prepare to enter the contest. Thus, it is no surprise how the beta version of the game is perceived by a coveting community: with more and more tournaments every week. To name just a few, the HDH Invitational has been announced by Team Liquid, starting on Wednesday with a prize pool of $ 2450, the so-called Razer StarCraft II Beta Domination, featuring the top European players and some 400 € in prizes, and the Qualification Cups for ESL EMS Season VI, having already started on Tuesday, 13th of April. Of course, the game has been as well added to the prestigious Starswar Reborn Festival (originally a WarCraft III tournament for $ 10,000 between Europe, China and Korea) which took place in Shanghai over the weekend.Quo vadis, WCG? This makes it all the more surprising that StarCraft 2 will not be played at World Cyber Games 2010 in Los Angeles. Granted, a beta version of a game has never been played at WCG so far (and this is what could have happened if SC 2 had been chosen, given the fact that qualification tournaments will start soon and there is still no official release date for the game), but there have been lots of games at WCG which looked pretty much like an early beta version of a computer game – to say the least...Besides, who would not agree that SC 2 is – even in its beta version – much more of an e-Sport games than the billiard simulation Carom 3d or Asphalt 5, a game played on mobile phone. Not to mention the number of people these quality game will attract to the most important e-Sports festival in the world (what WCG has been considered to be so far...). (discuss this topic in ouf forums.) Talking about tournaments … … let's not forget all the small, local tournaments with few or no money prizes mushrooming as well as the bigger ones we normally present to you. They should be considered as further evidence of the important fan base SC 2 already has. One of these tournaments is the UF SC2 Beta Turnier, hosted by the most important German Command & Conquer community. This is just one example, chosen for no particular reason... let's just have a look at the winner... it's a guy called MMC|Dragonfood ;-)
